In late 1987, Foreigner released their "Inside Information" album, and in early 1988, the first single, "Say You Will" became their fourth #1 single on Billboard's Mainstream Rock chart. (Note: The video reached #1 on MTV's Weekly Top 20.)
The song was written by group members Mick Jones and Lou Gramm, and the best description of it came from the Allmusic online database (which I am quoting directly):
"Say You Will" was a "good example" of the band's "balancing act" as the guitar-heavy style of their early work gave way to slick arrangements that pushed electronics to the fore...tempering its rock guitar edge...and Lou Gramm's quasi-operatic vocals...by thick layers of chiming synthesizers and an array of electronic textures."
That pretty much explains why "Say You Will" by Foreigner is a Great Song of 1987-88. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5atiLWT4emIv=5atiLWT4emIv=5atiLWT4emI
