Save It For a Rainy Day - Stephen Bishop (1977) 3/24/22

When you're putting together your debut album, it's nice to have some friends who can help out.

In Stephen Bishop's case, when he was about to begin recording the song "Save It For a Rainy Day" for his 1977 debut album "Careless," he asked his friend Richard Holland if he would ask his fiancé if she would be willing to sing backup.

Chaka Khan said yes.

Then, Stephen's manager Bob Ellis, who was married to Diana Ross at the time (Actress/singer Tracy Ellis Ross is their daughter), asked a friend of his to stop by the studio and meet Stephen.

So Eric Clapton stopped by, and he and Stephen became such fast friends, he agreed to play a short guitar solo on the track.

With backup like Chaka Khan and Eric Clapton, "Save It For a Rainy Day," a song about a relationship that most likely won't end well, was destined to be a "Great Song! When it was released as a single in 1977, it climbed to #6 on Billboard's Easy Listening Chart and #8 on the matching chart in Canada. It's good to have Great Friends. It's also good to debut with a "Great Song of the '70s!"
