Rockin' Chair - Gwen McCrae (1975) 3/30/23

Back on 4/20/22, we highlighted one of the most successful one-hit wonders of all time: "Rock Your Baby" by George McCrae. This "Great Song of '74" went to #1 in 11 countries, and sold more than 11 million copies! In 1975, it was his wife Gwen's turn to become a one-hit wonder, and she did it with "Rockin' Chair," a song that was intended to be an "answer" to "Rock Your Baby." George even sang backup on the track. Both songs are examples of early disco music, with "Rockin' Chair" a bit slower--slyly befitting its title. :-) Although "Rockin' Chair" did not match "Rock Your Baby" in worldwide sales or chart positions, it still fits the "Great Song of '76" category by topping Billboard's Rhythm & Blues Chart and reaching #10 on the Hot 100. Together, Gwen and George became the only married one hit wonders with separate #1 songs...and that's pretty cool.
