You've probably heard the Biblical quote,“No prophet is accepted in his own country.” Well, let me paraphrase that by saying, “Sometimes, a 'Great Song of the '70s' is not a hit in its own country.
In 1978, Australia's Little River Band released “Reminiscing,” a song whose one-word title explains exactly what it's about.
It was a big hit, too—in the US and Canada. In fact, in Canada, it went to #1 on the Adult Contemporary Chart and #7 on the Top 40. In the US, the numbers were almost as good: #10 on Billboard's Easy Listening chart and #3 on the Hot 100. The song even reached #17 in New Zealand, Australia's neighbor in the Pacific. But at home, all the song could muster was a weak #35.
A few years ago, BMI (Broadcast Music Incorporated) awarded the song a special citation for reaching 5 MILLION plays on US radio, making it the most-played Australian song in US history!
Throw THAT on your barbie and smoke it! :-) “Reminiscing:” A Great Song of 1978!
