In late 1969, the Scottish group Marmalade released a tune that became one of the first "Great Songs of 1970."
"Reflections of My Life" was a worldwide hit, selling well over a million copies and reaching the Top10 in 8 countries, including Canada (#6) and the US (#10).
One reviewer called it a "hippie version of the blues," and that's pretty accurate.
The song featured a "trippy" "reverse guitar solo" played by guitarist Junior Campbell. It was done with a technical trick: After it was initially recorded, the master tape was played backwards and Junior overlapped the solo again.
Fun Fact #1: Over the years, he song has been used in several films, including, of all things, "Inside Deep Throat," a documentary about porn actress Linda Lovelace, and TV shows like "Men of a Certain Age," which starred Scott Bakula, Ray Romano and Andre Braugher.
Fun Fact #2: Junior Campbell went on to compose the theme for "Thomas the Tank Engine."
