he sad list of music world deaths in 2023 continues to grow.
Yesterday, we paid tribute to Sinead O'Connor, and today we salute Randy Meisner, who passed away after a long illness at age 77.
You can read his comprehensive obituary from Deadline here: https://deadline.com/.../randy-meisner-dead-eagles.../
In addition to being a founding member of the Eagles, who wrote and sang their debut hit, "Take It Easy," Randy was also a member of two other bands of note: Poco and Rick Nelson's Stone Canyon Band.
Over the nearly 4 years I've been writing this blog, I've highlighted every Great Eagles Song, a couple of Great Songs by Poco, and Rick Nelson's "Garden Party."
Today, however, I'd like to highlight a song from Randy's early '80s solo career.
His 1980 album, "One More Song" yielded an almost forgotten Great Song of 1981: "Hearts on Fire," which charted at #14 on Billboard's Rock Chart and #19 on the Hot 100.
Whether you remember "Hearts on Fire" or not, it shows what Randy could do without being surrounded by Eagles, Poco, or Rick Nelson. It's a Great Song of 1981.
Rest in Peace, Randy Meisner.
