In 1975, Gordon Lightfoot released a "Great Song" that turned out to be his last #1 hit.
"Rainy Day People" topped the Adult Contemporary Charts in both the US and Canada. It also reached #10 on the Canadian Top 40.
The song is basically a ballad about people who've had their ups and downs, and can commiserate when "life happens" to you.
It's interesting to note that when Gordon was asked if he was singing about anyone specific, he replied, "Family. My extended family."
Makes a lot of of sense...and that lyrical bullseye is one of the main reasons why "Rainy Day People" by Gordon Lightfoot is a "Great Song of 1975!
