Precious and Few (1972) 6/4/20

Updated: Jun 4, 2020

In researching today's “Great Song of the '70s, there wasn't much to find.

It was written by Walter D. Nims who was once a member of the 1960s group, the Outsiders (“Time Won't Let Me'”)

The group broke up around 1970, and two splinter groups called the Outsiders toured the country for a while, until the version featuring Nims and lead singer Sonny Geraci lost a lawsuit and were forced to change their name. They chose “Climax.”

In 1972, they hired the Ron Hicklin Singers (a group of excellent session vocalists), went into the studio and recorded “Precious and Few.”

In the US, the song went to #3 on Billboard's Hot 100, and #6 on the Easy Listening chart. In Canada, it peaked at #6 on the Top 40.

Unfortunately, Climax had reached its climax, so to speak, and became a one-hit wonder.

But that one hit was certainly a “Great Song of the '70s!”
