Country crossovers were quite common during the '70s, with several artists scoring hits on the Pop and Country Charts with the same song.

The list of artists who pulled it off during the decade is impressive, and includes Elvis Presley, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Anne Murray, Glen Campbell, Charlie Rich, Jerry Reed, and today's highlighted artist: Olivia Newton-John.

At one point, Olivia had 5 Top-10 Pop/Country crossovers in a row, the last of which was 1975's "Please, Mr. Please."

The song is pretty straightforward. There's a jukebox in a bar. Song B-17 reminds her of her former love. She begs a guy not to play it.

If that sounds like the recipe for a GREAT country song, you're right! But with Olivia, it was also a recipe for more.

In Canada, the song pulled off the hat trick: #1 Country, Adult Contemporary, and Top 40.

In the US, it did almost as well: #5 Country, #3 Hot 100, and #1 Adult Contemporary.

TRIVIA: The song was written by Bruce Welch and John Rostill, both members of British pop star Cliff Richard's backing band, but Cliff never recorded it for obvious reasons.

"Please, Mr. Please," by Olivia Newton-John: a "Great Crossover Song of the '70s!"
