The #2 song on the very last Billboard Hot 100 Chart of the '70s (dated 12/29/79), was the very last "Great Song" by KC & The Sunshine Band before they broke up. It was also the only ballad the band ever released.
The following week, "Please Don't Go" started the '80s at #1, and not just in the US!
It also topped the charts in Canada, Australia, and South Africa...while reaching the Top 10 in 6 other countries.
I'm still counting it as a "Great Song of the '70s...because it did all the heavy chart climbing before the end of '79.
There's also a bit of irony in the song title...which could be applied to both the '70s as a decade...and to Harry Wayne Casey (KC), the Sunshine Band's front man, as he disbanded the group on his way to a solo career.
"Please Don't Go:" a "Great Song of 1979-80, and a farewell to KC & The Sunshine Band.
