Singer/songwriter Dave Loggins has always maintained that today's “Great Song of the '70s” was a true story...except there was no one waiting for him to come home to Tennessee...or anywhere else for that matter.
He did, however, WISH someone was waiting...and wrote the song about the loneliness he felt while performing on tour in Boston, Denver and L.A.
In 1974, “Please Come to Boston” was a huge hit in North America. In the US, it went to #1 on Billboard's Easy Listening Chart, and #5 on the Hot 100. In Canada, the matching chart numbers were #2 and #4.
It was nominated for a Grammy, and over the years, a “who's Who” of other artists have recorded it—including Willie Nelson, Joan Baez, Glen Campbell, Tammy Wynette, Reba McEntire, Jimmy Buffett, Harry Chapin, Tori Amos, and even Tom Hanks' wife Rita Wilson!
Please Come to Boston” A “Great Song of 1974.”
