Over My Head - Fleetwood Mac (1975) 12/1/22

Fleetwood Mac's Christine McVie has died at the age of 79. For the obituary, I defer to Rolling Stone Magazine: https://www.rollingstone.com/.../christine-mcvie.../

I don't know about you, but 79 is a little hard to wrap my head around--possibly because Fleetwood Mac's music has been so timeless, and possibly because it's an unwanted signal to those of us of a certain age that time is quickly marching on.

Since the beginning of this blog 3+ years ago, I've highlighted just about every "Great Song of the '70s" by Fleetwood Mac, including several written and sung by Christine. These included "Say You Love Me," "You Make Lovin' Fun," and "Don't Stop."

One song I hadn't gotten to yet is what we're looking at today: 1975's "Over My Head."

According to Christine, the song was about her working relationship with Lindsey Buckingham: How some days it was great, and others not-so much. (Sometimes, it was possibly more.!)

The song was the first single release from the 1975 "Fleetwood Mac" album, and by all accounts the group thought their record label (Reprise) had chosen the wrong song.

But they were wrong and Reprise was right! Billboard Magazine described Christine's vocal performance as "a completely distinctive voice, with a sexy huskiness that is unique in pop today." In Short order, "Over My Head" reached #9 in Canada and #20 in the US. It became the first hit for Fleetwood Mac in 6 years--and helped push the album to more than 8 million in sales! (And this was BEFORE the "Rumours" album.)

"Over My Head" by Fleetwood Mac: A "Great Song of 1975, " and a testament to the wonderful talent of Christine McVie. My she rest in peace. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UXWia0TWAMM
