Natalie Cole was, like her father, Nat "King Cole," an enormously talented singer. Her voice was incredible, and she had a number of "Great Songs" during the '70s...and won (or was nominated for) several Grammy Awards to prove it.
She might have had even more had she not lost several years of her career to drugs.
The good news is, after a long period of time and some very ugly experiences, she was able to overcome her addition. She became a renowned jazz singer who received a star on Hollywood Walk of Fame, and an honorary doctorate degree from the Berklee College of Music.
She even acted on several TV shows, including "Touched By an Angel" and "CSI." She also hosted the show "Big Break."
The bad news: She contracted hepatitis due to using dirty needles while addicted, and, even after a kidney transplant, it eventually killed her at age 65 on the last day of 2015.
Today, we're highlighting one of her best '70s songs...and certainly a "Great Song of '77:" "Our Love." It's a gorgeous ballad that really showed off her talent...and it became a beautiful slow dance for weddings, anniversaries and other special occasions.
As 1977 crossed into 1978, the song spent 2 weeks on top of Billboard's Soul Chart, and peaked at #10 on the Hot 100. It sold well over a million copies and was Grammy nominated for Best Female R&B Performance!"
