Imagine this:
A teenage girl is madly in love with the perfect man, and tries desperately to catch his attention--only to find out that she was dreaming the whole thing, and her world crashes around her.
That probably wouldn't make a very good Hallmark Movie...but it definitely turned into a Great Song!
In late December of 1986, 16-year-old Debbie Gibson burst onto the music scene with her debut album "Out of the Blue," featuring her debut single, "Only In My Dreams."
Debbie wrote the song herself -- the first of several self-written hits--making her the Taylor Swift of the '80s. Seriously.
Several versions of the song were released, which definitely helped "Only In My Dreams" to hit the charts--out of the blue, so to speak-- reaching #4 on the Hot 100 and #12 on the Dance Club Chart in early 1987.
Debbie even re-recorded the song in 1997...releasing 7 different NEW versions.
The video plays out the "Dream" plotline quite well--shot in and around Asbury Park in New Jersey (Springsteen territory!)
It was heck of a debut from very talented teen: "Only In My Dreams" by Debbie Gibson: a Great Song of 1987!
Tomorrow: When it's love...
