In 1974, rock guitarist Don Felder joined the Eagles, and that made Glenn Frey VERY happy. Even though country-rock ballads had been the bread and butter of the group up to that point, Glenn had gotten a little tired of the genre and wanted the group to do something with “more bite.”
So Glenn and Don Henley got together, listened to a bunch of Rock, Blues and Disco songs—just about anything OTHER than country rock—and started composing.
One of their efforts became the title of their next album, and a “Great Song of the '70s!”
While recording “One of These Nights” in Miami, they shared a studio with the Bee Gees, and Henley claims the Brothers Gibb helped influence the final version. (You have to listen carefully to hear it, though).
The album (also featuring the songs “Lyin' Eyes” and “Take It to the Limit”) went to #1 on Billboard's Album Chart, and the single version of “One of These Nights” went to #1 on the Hot 100.
To this day, Glenn Frey calls it his favorite Eagles song. And why not? Thanks to him, Don Henley, and the rest of the Eagles, it's a “Great Song of 1975!
