Every now and then, I like to highlight a "bubblegum" song. After all, they were catchy and fun...and thanks to young teens (who are now in their 60s), many of them were chart toppers back in the day!
Today, we're highlighting a "Great Song" that could have been a hit for The Jackson 5, but went to The Osmonds instead.
Donny Osmond and Michael Jackson were actually good friends, and according to Donny, Michael told him the Jacksons had a choice: either
record "One Bad Apple" or give it to The Osmonds and record "ABC" instead.
That's exactly what happened, and it worked out quite nicely for both families. BOTH songs went to #1 on the Hot 100!
(We highlighted "ABC" back on 7/2/20, and you can read about it below.)
"One Bad Apple" not only went to #1, it was also used as the theme to The Osmonds cartoon show on ABC-TV. When a song is used as the theme for a Saturday morning cartoon, you know you've got a "bubblegum" classic on your hands. :-)
