Radio Deejay joke (or "Dad" joke, if you prefer):
Back in 1977, I played today's "Great Song of the '70s" on the radio so much, I had to join On-an-On-an-On. {Rimshot}
I'll be here all week.
But seriously, Stephen Bishop's "On and On" (from his debut album, "Careless") spent 28 weeks on the charts in '77, reaching #2 on Billboard's Easy Listening Chart and #11 on the Hot 100. In Canada, the matching chart numbers were 3 and 6, respectively.
The song was quirky and catchy and people loved it. That's why it spent nearly 7 months on the charts... and why it's a "Great Song of 1977!"
TRIVIA: Stephen toiled in near obscurity as a singer/songwriter for almost a decade before getting his big break. He was discovered by Leah Kunkel (Cass Elliott's sister!), who passed along one of his demo tapes to Art Garfunkel. Art liked what he heard, recorded a few of Stephen's songs and took him under his wing. At that's when Stephen's career..uh..took flight! Wing? Flight? Get it?
I could go "On and On" with the "Dad" jokes, but I'll just leave you with this link:
