There's a lot of talent behind today's Great Song of 1987.
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was co-written by Oscar. Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe-winner Diane Warren, along with Albert Hammond, known for such songs as "It Never Rains in Southern California."
The song was inspired by Albert's personal life. He had been waiting for YEARS to marry his second wife, but his first wife kept stalling their divorce. Once it was finally in the books, "nothing was gonna stop them now!"
Of course, the song was recorded by Starship, and featured some fantastic vocals by Mickey Thomas....and the legendary Grace Slick who had been a part of Starship since its days as Jefferson Airplane in the'60s.
For the most part, Grace was an alto, but for THIS song, she was asked to sing soprano...and she belted it out with her signature power.
The song was Starship's final chart topper, reaching #1 in the UK, Ireland, Portugal...and , of course, the US and Canada, where it reached #1 on the Top 40 and Adult Contemporary Charts in both countries.
"Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now" was included on Starship's "No Protection" album, and was used as the theme from the romantic comedy "Mannequin," starring Andrew McCarthy, Kim Cattrall, G.W. Bailey, and Meshach Taylor--all of whom appear in the video with Mickey, Grace, ans their "Ship" mates.
