Back on August 6th, we highlighted the song "Jive Talking" by the Bee Gees, and how it was originally called "Drive Talking" until producer Arif Martin suggested it would be more "edgy" if they changed the name. You can read the whole story here:

It marked the beginning of the Bee gees as a disco act...but they didn't know it yet.
For their next single, "Lights on Broadway," Arif intervened again and told them the song would be edgier if they changed it to "Nights on Broadway," and altered the lyrics a bit.
Oh, and one more thing: Arif thought they should try adding some falsetto...with maybe a falsetto scream or two somewhere in the song.
Well, the brothers had never even TRIED singing falsetto before, and much to their surprise, Barry was a natural at it, with a powerful higher register that was about to change everything.
And so, when "Nights on Broadway" was released (from the album "Main Course"), two things happened:
#2: Their new "sound" catapulted the Bee Gees into a whole new era of hitmaking---disco and otherwise.
Don't you wonder what would have happened if Arif Martin had kept his mouth shut? :-)
Nights on Broadway" by the Bee Gees: a "Great Song of the '70s!"
