Remember Toby Beau? If not, let me jog your memory. Toby Beau was a 2-Hit wonder in the late '70s.
Was Toby Beau the name of a singer or a band?
The answer is "yes." They started out as a band from Texas, headed by singer/songwriter Danny McKenna. When the band eventually broke up, Danny went solo and used it as his stage name.
Danny and group member Balde Silva wrote their only #1 hit, "Angle Baby," which is also a "Great Song of 1978!"
The song is an updated '50s style ballad that climbed all the way to #1 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart and #13 on the Hot 100.
That #13 may have been an unlucky chart number for the group, because the only other time they charted was in 1979, with a remake of the 1967 Casinos hit, "Then You Can Tell Me Goodbye" that went to #7 on the AC Chart--but missed the Hot 100 completely.

TRIVIA: For the record, the name "Toby Beau" originally came from an old wooden shrimp boat that was docked at Port Isabel, Texas.
