Movin' On Up _ Ja'Net Dubois (1975) 11/29/22)

Rolling Stone Magazine has done it again! Just before Thanksgiving, they unveiled their list of the Top 100 TV Themes of All Time! (1950s through today)

What struck me right off the bat was a sentence they used in their introduction, and I quote: "Honestly, the entire 100 could have been made up of shows from the Seventies."

Indeed, there were several '70s themes on the list, and as far as this blog goes, I'm pleased to say that we've highlighted quite a few of them over the past 3 years. In fact, the #1 song on Rolling Stone's list was a '70s theme song we highlighted back on 2/18/20, the day that Ja'Net DuBois passed away at the age of 74. Today, I'm re-running and updating that post--just because the song is so iconic, it deserves to be played again...and again...and again! So here goes:

You most likely remember Ja'Net s Willona, who lived next door to the Evans family on the TV series "Good Times." (The show also starred John Amos, Esther Rolle, Janet Jackson and Jimmy "J.J." Walker.)

But she was also responsible for co-writing (with Jeff Barry) and singing one of the "Greatest TV Themes" of the '70s...and as of now, (according to Rolling Stone) of all time! (Backed by a 35-member gospel choir, no less!)

Oddly enough, Ja'Net never appeared on "The Jeffersons," but her presence was certainly felt before every episode began! The song never charted, but there's not a single person of a certain age who can't sing along, or at the very least, quote some of the lyrics.

In honor of Ja'Net DuBois, (and a tip of the hat to Rolling Stone), here's "Movin' on Up!" (1975-85) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnS9tt5yGuc
