Reaching #1 with your very first single release is a great start, and it certainly was for Kent Lavoie.
You may remember Kent by his alias, "Lobo," and any fan of '70s music certainly knows his debut hit, "Me and You and a Dog Named Boo."
Kent was trying to write a song about traveling around the country with a girl, but he couldn't figure out a good lyric to rhyme with "You and Me..."
Inspiration struck when he decided to flip the lyric to "Me and You," and then...while he was trying to come up with a rhyme for THAT, his German Shepherd, Boo, came running around the corner.
The rest is history. :-)
Sure the grammar was bad, but the song became a "Great Song of 1971!" It was a Top 10 hit in 7 countries, reaching #1, on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, (as well as #5 on the Hot 100!
After that, Kent--as Lobo--had several other hits, some of which we'll highlight in the near future.
"Me and You and a Dog Named Boo:" A Great Song of 1971!
