1975 & 1976 brought us a number of iconic TV themes that became “Great Songs of the '70s! Since this we started this blog 11 months ago, we've highlighted 3 of them--all from comedies: (You can track down the original blog entries by clicking these links:
“Welcome Back (Kotter)” https://cuuuk8.wixsite.com/mysite/post/welcome-back-11-25-19
“Movin' On Up” (The Jeffersons). https://cuuuk8.wixsite.com/mysite/post/longer-2-18-20“
There's one more theme from that 2-year period I'd like to add, and it's just as iconic! It was written by Norman Gimbel and Charles Fox, who also wrote “Happy Days.”
When producer Garry Marshall decided to create a spinoff series from “Happy Days” starring his sister Penny, he went back to Gimbel & Fox to write the new theme...which they did, and just like with “Happy Days,” (by Pratt & McLain), they handed it off to an unknown artist.
Cyndi Grecco nailed “Making Our Dreams Come True,” and it was a hit on the Adult Contemporary Charts in the US (#13) and Canada (#15). It also went to #25 on the Top 40.
And the spinoff, “Laverne & Shirley,” ran for 8 years! The residuals made Cyndi Grecco rich (hopefully), but unfortunately, she never had another hit. Still, if you're going to be a one-hit wonder, having a “Great TV Theme of the '70s” is not a bad way to go!
