We're back in the '70s again today...for a one-and-a-half hit wonder.
I'll admit that I'm stretching the definition to creative a dubious category, but hey...it's my blog...
You may remember David Naughton from his 1979 hit "Makin' It."
Not only was it the theme song for the short-lived series (9 episodes) of the same name--starring David in sort of a "Saturday Night "Fever" ripoff--but it was also featured prominently in the 1979 film "Meatballs," starring Bill Murray, written by Harold Ramis, and directed by Ivan Reitman--all of whom would go on to Ghostbusters in 1984.
"Makin' It" not only made the Top 10 in Canada (#10) and the US (#5), it was also a hit on the Dance Charts in both Countries (#4 & #11 respectively).
Okay...so where does the "half hit" come in?" Like I said, I'm stretching the definition. ;-)
"Makin' It" was the only song David Naughton ever released...but he was far more famous for another song that in the late '70s, was everywhere: on radio, on TV, and on the lips of soda drinkers everywhere: Dr. Pepper's "I'm a Pepper" Jingle!
(Check the extra links below).
"Makin' It" was a Great Song of 1979, but the jingle was one of the Greatest Advertising Jingles of All Time--both thanks to David Naughton! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F47AfASOnA8
