Over the decades--and especially in the '70s--Stevie Nicks sang on a LOT of "Great Songs--mostly for Fleetwood Mac, of course, but she also sang backup on a "Great Song" that was ABOUT her: 1978's "Magnet and Steel" by Walter Egan.
According to Walter, he was working on his debut album, "Fundamental Roll," when he was lucky enough to hire Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham to co-produce.
He was also able to convince Stevie to sing on a (rather explicit) song he wrote called "Tunnel O' Love," and after that, he was so smitten by her voice--and good looks--he was inspired to write a song about his feelings for her.
In fact, he was SO inspired, he was able to write Magnet and Steel" as he drove home that night from the studio.
Stevie loved the song, and Walter was thrilled when she sang backup on the track. (No word on how Stevie felt about Walter himself.)
"Magnet and Steel was a Top 10 hit in both Canada (#9) and the US (#8).
Unfortunately, it made Walter a one-hit wonder--and he didn't "get the girl," either...but he had to be happy just to work with Stevie Nicks on a "Great Song of 1978--don't ya think?

And just for fun, here's "Tunnel O' Love:" (Rated R.)
