Ma Belle Amie - Tee Set (1970) 1/15/22

A few days ago, while highlighting "Help is On Its Way" by the Little River Band, I mentioned that during the rock era, many Australian groups have charted in the US.

Today, I'm getting a bit more obscure...with a "Great Song of 1970" that came from The Netherlands.

"Ma Belle Amie" was a bilingual (French/English) hit by the Tee Set that was released in 1969 everywhere but the US and Canada...and became a Top 10 hit in 7 countries, including #1 in South Africa. Oddly enough, the Tee Set recorded an Italian version that failed to chart in Italy!

In 1970, "Ma Belle Amie" was released in North America, and quickly became a Top 10 hit in Canada (#1) and the US (#5).

For the record. "Ma Belle Amie" is French for "My Beautiful Friend," and the other French phase repeated several times in the song, "Apres Tous les beaux jours je te dis merci merci" translates to: "After all the beautiful days, I say thank you, thank you." Although The Tee Set had several other songs reach the Top 20 in The Netherlands and Belgium, they became a one-hit wonder in the US and Canada. C'est La Vie (That's Life) I guess...but most certainly "Ma Belle Amie was a "Great Song of of 1969 &1970!"
