Love Train (1973) 4/25/2020

January 27th, 1973 was a big day in history: The Paris Peace Accord was signed, ending The Vietnam War. Coincidentally—but with perfect timing--it was the same day that today's “Great Song of the '70s” entered Billboard Magazine's Top 40.

By late February, “Love Train” by the O'Jay's was #1 on the R & B Chart, and in March, it topped the Hot 100. In the UK, it went to #9 and in Canada, it peaked at #15.

The song is a classic example of the smooth “Philadelphia Sound,” employed by so many artists of the day...so much so, it was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2006.

Unfortunately, it was the O'Jays ONLY #1 song on the Pop Charts...but no worries, they had several other hits over the years—and the group is in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame!

“Love Train:” a “Great Song” from 1973!
