(Love Is) Thicker than Water- Andy Gibb (1977) 11/16/23

Writer's picture: Michael CookMichael Cook

1977 was the year Andy Gibb began his short, but meteoric, career as a "Singer of Great Songs."

Sure, it helped that his big brothers were the Bee Gees, but Andy had the family talent as well.

His debut album, "Flowing Rivers," produced TWO Great #1 Songs: "I Just Want to Be Your Everything," which we highlighted back on 7/13/22. and the follow-up: "(Love Is) Thicker than Water."

The song was written by brother Barry. but not until he had asked Andy if he had any title ideas. Andy supplied "Thicker than Water," and Barry took it from there.

Billboard Magazine described the song as: "Plenty of melody and another catchy hook," and that's dead-on accurate.

In addition to #1 on Billboard's Hot 100, it also topped the Adult Contemporary Chart in Canada, while reaching #2 on their Top 40.

All-in-All, "(Love is) Thicker than Water" is most definitely a Great Song of 1977! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1LnfSAZmKmk

Tomorrow:  A trip to Funkytown.
