Love in the First Degree - Alabama (1982) 7/18/23

During the 1980s, with the rise of new musical genres like Electronic Dance Music, Techno-Pop, New Wave, and Rap, there was still room for Rock and Roll...and Country Crossovers.

There were dozens of Country hits that also made the POP charts, thanks to artists like Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, Eddie Rabbitt, Ronnie Milsap, and Alabama.

Today's Great Song of the '80s was released by Alabama as a single in late 1981, and by early 1982, "Love in the First Degree" had gone to #1 on the Country Charts in both the US and Canada. It ALSO topped Canada's Adult Contemporary Chart, and reached #5 in the US on Billboard's matching chart.

It was one of an impressive list of THIRTY-TWO #1 Country Songs by the group during their heyday, 5 of which also reached the Top 10 on the AC Chart.

The song was a cute-clever tale of a man who is guilty of falling in love and in throwing himself on the mercy of the object of his affection.
