One of the biggest hits of 1977 was "Looks Like We Made It" by Barry Manilow--reaching #1 on Billboard's Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts, as well as Canada's Top 40.
At the time, it was lauded by millions as a "Great Song," because it made such a positive statement--which confused songwriters Richard Kerr and Will Jennings, because they wrote it as a post-breakup song.
In fact, Kerr insists it's supposed to be sad and ironic because it's about a man who is coming to terms with the fact that he and his "ex" are better off without each other.
But on the other hand, maybe that IS a positive thing! It's all in your interpretation.
Either way, "Looks Like We Made It" by Barry Manilow is a "Great Song of 1977!"
