In their early days, The Doobie Brothers used to do some ad-lib jamming during their concerts. Eventually, a specific song started to take form. At first, they called it, "Rosie Pig Moseley," then just "Osborn."
Guitarist Tom Johnston figured those were pretty good names for a bar jam,...but then record producer Ted Templeman asked him to write some lyrics...and the title changed again, to: "Long Train Running."
Tom still didn't think it was anything more than a bar jam...but when it was recorded for the album "The Captain and Me," and released as a single in 1973, he was surprised to see it climb to #8 in both the US and Canada...as well as #10 in The Netherlands and #11 in South Africa.
Billboard called it: "a good-timey, good harmony cooker!" In other words: a "Great Song of the '70s!" Doobie Brothers:
