One day in 1975, Glen Frey of the Eagles was riding in a car driven by his drug dealer---a guy known as "The Count."
It seems The Count had a lead foot...and kept going faster and faster until Glenn begged him to slow down.
The Count replied, "What do you mean? It's Life in the Fast Lane!"
A few months later during an Eagles rehearsal, Joe Walsh ad-libbed a guitar riff that caught Don Henley's attention. Don felt the riff could be turned into a "Great Song," so he sat down with Joe and Glen and hammered out what became a "Great Song of 1977."
Remembering his trip with "The Count," Glen suggested the title, and together, the trio fashioned a story about a fictional couple who take their excessive lifestyle to the edge--(a much more interesting and palatable story than riding in a car with a speeding drug dealer)!
The Eagles included "Life in the Fast Lane " on their "Hotel California" album, and although the single just missed the Top 10--coming in at #11--the song has definitely become a classic!
"Life in the Fast Lane" by the Eagles: A "Great Song of 1977!"
