Lamon Dozier Tribute (8/9/22)

Another sad day for music fans...as we say goodbye to Lamont Dozier, one-third of Detroit's incredible songwriting/producing team of Holland Dozier Holland, who has passed away at age 81.

The impact Lamont (as well as Brian and Eddie Holland) had on popular music cannot be understated. That's why they're members of The Rock And Roll Hall of Fame, the Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Michigan Rock And Roll Legends Hall of Fame.

Name a Motown artist from the 60s: Marvin Gaye, The Supremes, Martha and the Vandellas, The Marvelettes, The Miracles, The Four Tops, The Temptations---Holland Dozier Holland wrote and produced literally dozens of "Great Songs" for them all--and many others.

Even after they left Motown and started their own label, Hot Wax/Invictus, they kept writing and producing "Great Songs." Just the other day, we highlighted "Give Me Just a Little More Time" by The Chairman of the Board. Click here: https://www.facebook.com/page/103016317838491/search?

And over the course of the the past 3 years on this blog, we've also been able to highlight some of their other "Great Songs:" songs that were either recorded or remade with great success by artists in the '70s. Examples include:

"How Sweet It Is" (James Taylor/Carly Simon): https://manage.wix.com/.../e85e85c5-7444-496a-ba93.../edit

Today, in honor of Lamont Dozier, I present yet another "Great Song" from their massive library.

"Take Me In Your Arms (Rock Me a Little While") was originally released by Kim Weston in 1965, reaching #4 on Billboard's R&B Chart. In 1967, The Isley Brothers took their version to #22 on the same chart...and then, in 1975, The Doobie Brothers released a kick-ass version that reached #11 on The Hot 100!

Lamont Dozier (and the Holland Brothers) may not have been household names, but their gigantic list of "Great Songs" is one heck of a legacy.

Rest in Peace, Lamont, and thanks for the music. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kNTk9DKgnbk
