Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA had a feeling that life was about to imitate art while was helping Benny Andersson and Stig Anderson write the song “Knowing Me, Knowing You.”
Things were not going well with his wife, Anna-Frid (the A to Bjorn's B), nor was it going well between Benny and Agnetha (The other B & A).
The song was about breaking up, and within a few months, both couples were divorced. Of course, that didn't stop the song from becoming a “Great Song of the '70s,” and a worldwide hit.
In 1977, “Knowing Me, Knowing You” was #1 in 6 countries, and a Top 10 in 9 more...including #5 in Canada and #7 in the US!
If the lyrics didn't signal problems in the group (and the marriages), the video certainly did the trick. Watch & see!
(Trivia: Anna-Frid went on to marry into Swedish Royalty: Prince Heinrich Ruzzo Reuss of Plauen ...and upon his passing she became the Dowager Countess of Plauen!)
“Knowing Me, Knowing You:” a sad, but “Great Song of the '70s”
