Keep Ypur hands to Yourself - Georgia Satellites (1987) 10/23/23

Updated: Oct 26, 2023

One day in 1986, Dan Baird was riding the bus home from his construction job, when he had an idea for a blues song about a girl who wouldn't--well, let's say "canoodle" before marriage.

According to Dan, "Keep Your Hands to Yourself" wrote itself before he even got home.

So he presented it to his band, The Georgia Satellites, who were working on their self-titled debut album. It was released as a single in November of '86, and by mid-February of 1987, it was a #2 hit on two Billboard Charts: The Hot 100 and the Album Rock Chart.

Some critics felt the Satellites were channeling Chuck Berry (in a good way), while others called it a "timeless kick-out-the-jams rock & roll song." (Both opinions are accurate.

"Keep Your hands to Yourself" is truly a Great Song of the '80s, but unfortunately, The Georgia Satellites ended up being a one-hit wonder.

And yet, they persevere! After a few breaks and several personnel changes (Dan went solo years ago), they're still out there performing today!

PS: The video is a hoot! (Hey, if I can use "canoodle" in a sentence, I can use "hoot" as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WonOudGMSdc

Tomorrow: Rick rolls to #1 worldwide.
