Just Like Paradise - David Lee Roth (1988) 12/27/23

Writer's picture: Michael CookMichael Cook

Thirty-Six years ago this week, David Lee Roth released what would turn out to be his biggest hit after leaving Van Halen...and a Great Song of 1988.

"Just Like Paradise" was "typical David:" an uptempo glam-rocker that showed off his vocal chops in a way that one music critic called "a polished ode to decadence." That's a pretty clever oxymoron when you think about it!

The video was noteworthy as well, featuring concert footage mixed with film of David doing some dangerous rock climbing--one of his favorite hobbies.

"Just Like Paradise" went to #1 on Billboard's Rock Tracks Chart and #6 on the Hot 100.

In addition to being David Lee Roth's biggest solo hit, it was also his last...but most certainly a Great Song of 1988!

Tomorrow: A Great Song of 1983 in Canada becomes a Great Song in the US--6 years later!
