To be honest, our final highlighted song of the year wasn't exactly a big hit, but on the other hand, it was written specifically for New Years Eve, and the tone and feeling behind it fits the end of 2021 quite well.
In December of 1977, Barry Manilow was playing the Uris Theatre in Midtown Manhattan, and asked his songwriting collaborator, Marty Panzer, to help him write a New Year's Eve song for his show.
According to Marty, "We wrote "Just Another New Years Eve" on Monday, orchestrated it on Tuesday, and recorded it on Wednesday." It appeared on the 1977 album, "Manilow Live," and was released as a single.
Was it a chartbuster? ?No. It peaked at #33 on Billboard's Adult Contemporary Chart, and that's about it.
But then, Dick Clark asked Barry to perform on his "Rockin New Years Eve" telecast. Barry obliged, and the song became a staple on the show for several years.
Again, it wasn't exactly a big hit, but it's a VERY GOOD song, and it's perfect for... "Just Another New Year's Eve." Goodbye 2021...and good riddance.
