Larry Groce is a name you're probably not familiar with--or maybe you are!
Larry is a singer/songwriter who has had a long association with the Walt Disney Company, singing on nine children's albums for Disneyland Records. In fact, he even picked up a Grammy nomination for "Best Children's album" in 1976--for the album "Winnie the Pooh for President!
Several of his other Disney albums are still in print...and still sell quite well.
But perhaps you might know Larry as producer and host of the long running NPR Radio show, "Mountain Stage," which ended in 2019.
And of course, if you were listening to Top 40 radio in 1976, you most likely remember Larry as the "Junk Food Junkie." This funny novelty song, recorded live, made it all the way to #9 on Billboard's Hot 100, and sold well over a million copies.
The song poked fun at the health food craze of the '70s...but, believe it or not, the humor still holds up today. That makes it "timeless--not to mention a "Great Novelty Song!
Here's "Junk Food Junkie" by Larry Groce:
And just for fun, here's one of Larry's Disney cuts. (You might recognize this one):
