We're less than 2 weeks into 2023, and we've already had too many deaths in the music world.
Today, we mourn the passing of guitar virtuoso, multi-Grammy-Award Winner, and two-time Rock & Roll Hall-of-Fame inductee, Jeff Beck, who died yesterday of meningitis at the age of 78.
As always, I defer to Variety Magazine for the comprehensive obituary: https://variety.com/.../jeff-beck-guitarist-dead-dies.../
Jeff's stellar work with The Yardbirds in the '60s was a harbinger of his later work with groups--most of which he fronted--and several special projects, which continued right up through last year.
Because Jeff never really released any singles of his own, his music became a staple of FM underground and free form radio stations, and garnered quite a fan base.
While looking for "Great Jeff Beck Songs of the '70s", I decided to highlight TWO. If you were more of an AM-Radio fan back in the day, you've probably never heard these, but I think they're perfect examples of what Jeff Back was capable of.
The first is "Superstition:" a Stevie Wonder song that he wrote for Jeff, but ended having a hit with it himself.
The second is "Led Boots," which is a tribute to Led Zepplin, and pretty amazing.
Give them both a listen and enjoy!
Rest in Peace, Jeff Beck! (Or turn up your amp and rock those Heavenly Gates!)
