"Who ya Gonna Call" for a "Great Song of 1978?"
Ray Parker,Jr. will forever be remembered for his 1984 theme from "Ghostbusters," but long before that happened, he was a studio musician and vocalist for Motown--and just about every other record label in Detroit (and there were quite a few).
In 1977, he put together his own group, cleverly called Raydio, and they released a couple of Great Songs.
Back on 6/3/22, we highlighted 1978's "You Can't Change That" https://www.facebook.com/profile/100043442515969/search...
But today, we're going to back up a year to 1977,and highlight "Jack and Jill," their debut single from their eponymous debut album.
As you can imagine (and/or remember), the song was a soulful adult take on the nursery rhyme of the same name.
It certainly caught everyone's attention, becoming an international Top 10 hit! In addition to reaching #5 on Billboard's Soul Chart and #8 on the Hot 100, it went to #4 in Australia and New Zealand, and #5 on Canada's Top 40.
Trivia: Ray was one of THREE rotating lead singers on the track, along with group bassist, Jerry White and Amell Carmichael.
