It Only Takes a Minute - Tavares (1975) 3/7/21

Dennis Lambert and Brian Potter co-wrote a lot of "Great Songs back in the day, including "One Tin Soldier," "Ain't No Woman Like the One I Got," and today's "Great Song of 1975!"

"It Only Takes a Minute" by Tavares was a a great example of the "Philadelphia Sound"...and a disco classic that did quite well on three different Billboard charts: Soul (#1), Dance (#2), and the Hot 100 (#10).

At She-nannigans in Eau Claire, it was on our playlist from "disco day one" in '76, and as the years went by, we'd occasionally slip it into the mix, just for fun.

It's interesting to note that outside of the US, it got very little attention. The only other country it made the charts was Canada, where it reached #17 on the Top 40.

It MIGHT have been a hit in the UK, but they were beaten to the punch by Jonathan King, performing under the odd name of "One Hundred Ton & a Feather." THAT version made it to #9 in the UK, and #10 in Ireland. In my honest opinion, it's hard to understand why. Use the links below to compare the two...and maybe you'll hear what I mean. It'll only take a minute. :-)

In any event, thanks to Dennis Lambert, Brian Potter and Tavares, "It Only Takes a Minute" is a "Great Song of '75!"
