It Might Be You - Stephen Bishop (1983) 8/1/23

In December of 1982, the film "Tootsie" was released and instantly became a box office smash.

The story in a nutshell: An actor who can't find work dresses in drag, fools almost everyone and becomes a star. Unfortunately, he falls in love with his co-star.

T

he all-star cast was led by Dustin Hoffman, Sidney Pollock, Jessica Lange, Bill Murray, and Geena Davis--just to name a few. It was nominated for 10 Academy Awards--including Best Picture, with Lange a winner for Best Supporting Actress.

The theme from "Tootsie" garnered one of the 10 nominations, and became a "Great Song of 1983.

"It Might Be You," written by Alan and Marilyn Bergman and sung by by Stephen Bishop, also topped the Adult Contemporary Charts in the US and Canada.

Note: In 2019, a musical adaptation opened on Broadway, and won the Tony Award for "Best Book/Musical." Unfortunately, "It Might Be You" does not appear in the show.

Still, that doesn't take away from the fact that "It Might Be You" by Stephen Bishop was a "Great Song of 1982-83. (Enjoy the video as it recaps the film!)

Tomorrow: Lonely heart? Yes!
