When your first hit goes to #1 and becomes a "Great Song of 1970," how do you follow it up?
"It Don't Matter to Me."
That's the song Bread released as a follow-up to "Make it With You." And if your first hit goes to #1, would it be a surprise if your second hit went to #2? That's exactly what happened: #2 on Billboard's Easy Listening Chart (as well as #10 on the Hot 100).
Like every Bread hit, "It Don't Matter to Me" was written and sung by David Gates, but there was one oddity: "Make it With You" was from their SECOND album, but "It Don't Matter to Me" was from their FIRST.
Apparently, once Bread had a big hit, Elektra Records decided to go back and, with a few alterations, release one of the best songs from their 1969 debut album. It turned out to be a smart move.
"It Don't Matter to Me:" the second in a long line of hits by Bread, and a "Great Song of 1970" that, uhh, really matters to me.
Note: We highlighted "Make It With You" back on 3/10/20, and you can read about it here: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCuuuk/posts/157255082414614
