If You Really Loved Me - Stevie Wonder (1971) 5/3/21

Stevie Wonder was married to Syreeta Wright for only 18 months, but even though their marriage was short, they were able to collaborate on some "Great Songs of the '70s!"

One was 1970's "Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I'm Yours)," which we highlighted back on 2/10/21: https://www.facebook.com/MichaelCuuuk/posts/279714276835360

And then there's today's choice: 1971's "If You Really Loved Me."

At this point, Stevie was coming into his own as a solo artist. In fact, after the song was released, he left Motown's Hitsville USA studios in Detroit, and moved to New York City to record on his own. It was a BIG step for Stevie, and it certainly paid off in the years to come.

But back to 1971 and "If You Really Loved Me...

In addition to singing, Stevie played piano, synthesizer and drums on the track, and Syreeta sang backup. Radio listeners "Really Loved" it... enough to make it a Top 10 hit on THREE separate Billboard Charts: R&B (#4), Hot 100 (#8) and Adult Contemporary (#10).

"If You Really Loved Me" by Stevie Wonder (and Syreeta Wright):

A "Great Song of 1971!"
