I Was Made For Loving You - Kiss (1979) 9/6/22

When the album "Dynasty" was released in 1979, the KISS hit the fan! (Sorry, I couldn't help myself.) " -)

The first single from the album was a rockin' DISCO song...and the KISS Army was NOT pleased.

Shouts of "SELLOUT" rang throughout the land, but they were drowned out by the millions of fans who bought the record and helped turn"I was Made For Loving You" into a concert staple for the group...and a "Great Song of the '70s!"

There's an interesting story behind the whole thing...

The Rolling Stones had recently released "Miss You," which shocked THEIR fans, but also became a crowd pleaser and a"Great Disco Song." You can read my blog post about it here: https://www.facebook.com/page/103016317838491/search/?q=miss%20you

This was not lost on the members of KISS...especially Paul Stanley. One day, he was spit-balling song ideas with songwriters Desmond Child and Vini Poncia and they came to the conclusion that writing a disco hit was easy.

So, to prove it, they sat down and wrote "I Was Made for Loving You" in less than two hours. Paul says he stole the hook from "Standing in the Shadows of Love" by The Four Tops. I've included a link to that song below so you can make comparisons.

A quick look at the charts shows just how big the song was worldwide: #1 in 7 countries, including Canada...#2 in Australia and Germany, and #11 in the US.

Trivia: Although Peter Criss is in the video and on the album cover, he did not play drums on the track (or on most of the album). Session drummer Anton Fig--also a member of Paul Shaffer's World's Most Dangerous Band on Late Night With David Letterman--was the man with the sticks.

Trivia #2: Although Gene Simmons doesn't mind playing the song, he doesn't like his falsetto "Do-Do" singing part. He prefers more "manly vocals." Sorry Gene. :-)

" I Was Made for Loving You" by KISS...defeating the KISS Army to become a "Great Song of 1979!" KIss:
