I'm Your Boogie Man - KC & The Sunshine Band (1977) 4/18/21

Writer: Michael CookMichael Cook

In the early days of disco, there was no bigger group than KC and the Sunshine Band.

In 1976 and '77, Harry Wayne Casey (KC) and the gang consistently topped the charts with "Great Danceable Songs," and today, we're highlighting one of their best: "I'm Your Boogie Man."

Composer/Producer/Bassist Richard Finch claims the song was inspired by Miami radio deejay Robert W. Walker, who was the first to give their debut single "Get Down Tonight" some airplay.

"I'm Your Boogie Man" is pretty much a perfect disco song, with a solid, danceable beat that's not too fast or slow...a catchy melody...and a fun arrangement. Back in the day. it was a sure-fire way to get folks off their bar stools and onto the dance floor.

Charts? It couldn't have gotten much better: #1 on Canada's Top 40 and Dance Charts...and in the US, it topped the Hot 100, reached #3 on the Soul Chart and #9 on the Disco Chart.
