I'm Stone In Love With You (1972) 10/31/20

Today, we conclude our first anniversary celebration of “Great Songs of the '70s,” by revisiting the 4th song we highlighted when we started last year! Tomorrow, we start a new month...and our second year of highlighting “Great Songs.” But first...

The Stylistics had several smooth and soulful hits during the 1970s, all featuring the incredible falsetto voice of Russell Tompkins, Jr. One of their (and his) best was 1972's “I'm Stone in Love With You,” which reached the Top 10 in 5 countries, including Canada (#8 on the Top 40), and the US, where it reached #5 on Billboard's Soul Chart and #10 on the Hot 100. Globally, it sold more than a million copies!

In 1975, Johnny Mathis released a cover version that reached #5 in Canada and #16 in the US, proving once again that a “Great Song” can be a “Great Song” twice!

(Note: In the coming months, we'll be highlighting some other songs by the Stylistics...and maybe one or two others by Johnny Mathis).
