I'm Just a Singer in a Rock & Roll Band - Moody Blues (1973) 2/8/22

From 1973 through 1978, the Moody Blues did something very few bands have ever done successfully: they took a break.

No, they didn't "break up," Justin Hayward, John Lodge, Mike Pinder, Ray Thomas and Graeme Edge all agreed to take five years off so they could all pursue solo projects.

And sure enough, in 1978, The Moody Blues were back at it...with results that culminated in a number of "Great Songs of the '80s, like 1986's Top 5 hit: "Your Wildest Dreams." (See link below).

But today, we're looking at the last single (and "Great Song") they released BEFORE their "Great Hiatus:" 1973's "I'm Just a Singer in a Rock & Roll Band!"

The song was written by John Lodge, and included on the album "Seventh Sojourn."

Interestingly (at least for keyboard enthusiasts/historians), The Moody Blues used a Chamberlin on the track.

What's a Chamberlin? Well, it's sort of an early synthesizer that used pre-taped sounds--as opposed to electronically created music. For a detailed, but somewhat fascinating description, check out this article from Wikipedia:

It was a great way to slide into hiatus on a positive note, and a just a "Great Song" overall!
