I'll Never Love This Way Again - Dionne Warwick (1979) 3/31/21

It's hard to believe that a legendary singer like Dionne Warwick could go through a few "hitless" spells during her career. It seems that almost every time she'd record a "hit," she'd follow it up with a few years of "misses."

The good news? She always found her way back to the charts. For example: After hitting #1 with "Then Came You," a "Great Song of the '1974" featuring The Spinners,** it took FIVE YEARS--and a couple of record labels--to return to the Top 5.

In 1979, she signed with Arista Records, and someone thought it would be a good idea to team her up with Arista's best-selling, most popular artist to see what would happen.

What happened was this: Barry Manilow took a song that had failed to make the charts by a few other artists, rearranged it to fit Dionne's unique singing style, and produced it "Barry style."

It turned out to be a "GREAT" idea!

"I'll Never Love This Way Again" put Dionne back in the Top 5--reaching that number on Billboard's Hot 100 and Adult Contemporary Charts! In Canada. she reached #6 on the Top 40!

From that point in 1979--and through most of the '80s--she was a regular visitor to the upper reaches of the the Adult Contemporary Chart. This includes her appearance on USA for Africa's "We Are the World" in 1985.

"I'll Never Love This Way Again:" a "Great Song of '79" by Dionne Warwick (with help from Barry Manilow):
