I'll Go To My Grave Loving You (Special Edition) 4/25/20

Harold Reid, bass singer for The Statler Brothers passed away today at the age of 80.

The Statlers were a country/gospel group that became famous in 3 stages:

#1: Their 1965/66 crossover hit, “Flowers on the Wall.”

#2: Backing up Johnny Cash for several years, on songs like “Daddy Sang Bass.”

#3: Having so many hits on Billboard's Country Chart during the 1970s, (36!) they actually won The Country Music Association (CMA) Award for “Vocal Group of the Year” EVERY SINGLE YEAR from 1972 through 1977, and again in 1979!

In addition to his distinctive bass voice, Harold was also known for his oddball sense of humor, and led the way when the Statler's would record comedy albums under the name of “Lester 'Roadhog” Moran and The Cadillac Cowboys.”

(By the way, nobody named “Statler” was ever in the group. The name came from a brand of toiler paper—believe it or not!)

Choosing one song to commemorate Harold Reid from so much 1970s material was difficult, but I decided on this #3 song from 1977, which seems most appropriate.

Rest in Peace, Harold Reid.
